Haydn's 'Sunrise' Quartet at Maltings, Berwick

Who’s on stage
Musicians from our own Royal Northern Sinfonia, in the Main House at The Maltings in Berwick-upon-Tweed.
What they’re playing
Joseph Haydn earned himself the nickname ‘father of the string quartet’, writing 68 of them in total, and the Sunrise is one of his best – bright, joyful and heart-warming. Johannes Brahms’ first string quartet is a little less sunny but no less impressive, with an intense drama that’ll have you on the edge of your seat. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart adds a French horn to the line-up and gives them a virtuosic showstopper of a finale to really show off their skills.
