Hudson Records take over Sage Two for Folk on the Tyne for an intimate in-the-round day of performances. Claiming two BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards for Best Folk Album since their inception in 2016, founders Andy Bell and Neil McSweeney develop a wide range of music from all corners of the UK and across the globe.

BBC Radio 2 Folk Singer Of The Year 2018, Karine Polwart is a multi-award-winning Scottish songwriter and musician, as well as a theatre maker, storyteller, spoken-word performer and published essayist. Her songs combine folk influences and myth with themes as diverse as Donald Trump’s corporate megalomania, Charles Darwin’s family life and the complexities of modern parenthood. She sings traditional songs too and writes to commission for theatre, animation and thematic collaborative projects. Karine is six-times winner at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, including twice for Best Original Song.

Still in his mid 20s, Jack Rutter (Moore Moss Rutter, Seth Lakeman band, Jackie Oates band) is a highly respected singer, guitarist and multi-instrumentalist. The recent release of his debut solo album, which is a collection of eleven traditional folk songs, produced by Joe Rusby and recorded completely solo and live in the studio with no overdubs, has been received across the board with acclaim and recognition. Jack is one third of BBC Young Folk Award winners Moore Moss Rutter, the trio’s third album III was released on Hudson Records in 2018 and they are currently amazing audiences across the UK and Europe with their energetic and effortless tunes.

Hailing from Scotland and now based in Brooklyn, Hannah Read is a versatile multi-instrumentalist widely recognised on the International stage. She’s best known for her fiddle playing, songwriting and was recently described as one of “the finest singers of the day” in the UK’s MOJO Magazine. Hannah leads her own band and is an in-demand collaborator on both sides of the Atlantic, including one part of the critically acclaimed British folk super-group ‘Songs of Separation’, winners of ‘Album of the Year’ at the 2017 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. Her original songs are largely influenced by the people, places and landscapes she has encountered along the way, as well as musings of home, travel, love and loss – as can be heard on her critically acclaimed new album Way Out I’ll Wander (Hudson Records) which is compiled of “nine gorgeous originals” (The Guardian).

M G Boulter is a word smith, a singer-songwriter of the highest quality, an accomplished and soulful pedal steel and guitar player and one of the most exciting performers to come out of his native Southend this decade. Fresh from releasing Blood Moon with Birmingham string quartet, The Froe, last year Matt went out as tour support for Paul Heaton and Jaqui Abbott, stopping by The Royal Albert Hall in London for one of his more intermit gigs. His album With Wolves the Lamb Will Lie released in 2016 was listed by The Daily Telegraph as one of their Folk Albums of the Year.

Having worked with the likes of Simone Felice, Blue Rose Code, The Duke and the King, Neil McSweeney, Emily Portman and The Lucky Strikes, Matt continues to blossom as a solo artist as well as being one of the most in demand session musicians on the UK folk and roots scenes.
