Marketplace
Hartlepool’s MARKETPLACE create their own brand of indie pop masterpieces, earning a devoted fanbase along the way. Their engaging live performances have led to them supporting Alfie Templeman, Swim Deep, The Lottery Winners and Abbie Ozard, as well as playing slots at various UK festivals.
Marketplace is made up of Evie Rhodes (vocals/guitar), Joel O’Beirne (vocals/bass),Jack Purcell (guitar), Matthew Short (synth/vocals) and Ross Dixon (drums) who bring their own individual tastes to create a signature sound. They’ve had spins on Jess Iszatt on BBC Radio1’s Introducing show and been dubbed “Ones to Watch” by BBC Introducing in the North East, and received Track of the Week on 3 separate occasions. In October 2024 the band released their debut EP,“MARKETPLACE HAVE MADE AN EP!”
Hels Pattison
Hels is an alt-country/indie musician hailing from the North East of England. Known for her ethereal vocals, she has captivated audiences and gained a grassroots following through the vibrant North East buskers scene. Her debut EP ‘Just what I Do’, released January 2025, has been praised by local magazines and radio as “startlingly magnificent” with “powerful, classic songwriting”. Drawing influences from artists like Maggie Rogers and Mary Chapin Carpenter, Hels’ lyrics are both relatable and steeped in traditional country storytelling, making her a unique and compelling voice in the alt-country/indie genre.

BBC Introducing has been offering new and unsigned artists a way to gain radio play and build audiences since 2007. They’ve been instrumental to launching the careers of acts like Sam Fender, Florence + the Machine, Lewis Capaldi, Raye, Aitch, Olivia Dean, Myles Smith, Nia Archives and Tom Grennan.
It offers a route to regional and national airplay and occasionally BBC Introducing stages at festivals. The North East is home to the first region-wide partnership between BBC Introducing and multiple venues to showcase emerging and independent music.
