From Beyoncé to Fela Kuti, from Kendrick to Shabaka Hutchings, and even as recently as this year’s Mercury Music Prize winners, Ezra Collective; the influence of the Afrobeat pulse runs through the veins of so much of modern music.
Allow masterclass leader Jas Kayser – Berklee-trained drummer, composer and bandleader, Jazz FM’s Breakthrough Act of 2021 – to take you on a journey of discovery, collaboration and experimentation during this afternoon workshop. We will explore the roots and rhythms of Afrobeat, and apply these musical concepts, combining Jas’s signature groove to co-create a brand new sound.
The masterclass will involve jamming with other musicians and is aimed at adults (those over the age of 18) who are confident playing their instrument in front of others, in an exploratory and experimental workshop setting. All instruments are welcome.
