What's happening in the music?

Moving and sublime, Michael Tippett’s A Child of Our Time has come to be seen as one of the twentieth century’s masterpieces. Tippett uses a whole load of influences in his music, most famously African American spirituals, underlining the universality of its message, and giving what could be a very dark afternoon of music a strong underlying note of hope and unity.

Sharing the stage

As part of our Share the Stage project, musicians and vocalists from across the North East join us, underlining the epic scope of the piece and its universal message. Perhaps there’ll be someone you know performing?

A Child of Our Time is kindly supported by Michael & Helen McArdle CBE.
