Wax Heart Sodality 'Funny Games' | Live from Sage Gateshead
Wax Heart Sodality (WHS) is an organisation that takes the form of a mysterious, mask-wearing, garage rock band with a raw, yet theatrical stage presence.
“Funny Games was a song we had started writing before our Summer Studios residency and finished during our time at Sage Gateshead. It’s a dark and driving, guitar heavy track that sees us veering to a sharper post-punk sound. The lyrics were written using Oblique Strategies and take the perspective of a person who enters someone’s house and makes them self at home. The intention is ambiguous but feels entitled and slightly ominous… It reminded us of the early scenes in a Michael Haneke film, hence the name.”
‘Funny Games’ was recorded live from Sage Gateshead as part of our 2021 Summer Studios – a free, week-long residency at Sage Gateshead during August for 20 musicians, producers, artists, rappers and singers of all genres to be able to create new work, develop their practice or prepare for a performance.
