Make Music: About your visit

MM: Swing band updated (2024)

Everyone can Make Music, whatever your age, experience or ability.

If it’s your first time joining us in person at The Glasshouse, or you’re joining us online, this page should give you all the info you need.

Answer to your question not there? Contact learning@theglasshouseicm.org and we’ll be in touch.

We can’t wait to see in you in a class to make some music together.

Term Dates

You might hear us talk about ‘term dates’ and ‘half term’. Our Make Music classes are in line with school terms. When you book a Make Music class you usually book for the whole term which is 5 or 10 classes (depending on your course).

Autumn Term 2024

  • Term Starts: Week commencing Monday 23 September 2024
  • No classes: Monday 28 October – Monday 4 November 2024

Spring Term 2025
On sale Thursday 5 December 2024

  • Term Starts: Week commencing Monday 20 January 2025
  • No classes: Monday 24 February – Monday 3 March 2025

Instruments

If your class requires an instrument, you’ll need to bring your own. A drum kit and keyboard will be provided in relevant band classes.

If you’re joining us for the Beginner Ukulele class, you can borrow a ukulele.

Livestreamed Classes

For some of our Make Music classes we offer the option to join us from home and livestream the class. We have a camera in the studio so you can see and hear your tutor and join in with your fellow Make Music musicians.

And as an added bonus – in-building bookers will automatically get a free livestream pass. So if you can’t make it in person one week, you can catch up at home, or wherever you are – live or on demand.

Livestreamed classes are available to watch for four days after the class.

Read our guide on how to join a livestreamed Make Music class.

Refunds

Refunds for classes can only be made in the first three weeks of term. If you need to apply for a refund, get in touch with the Make Music team on learning@theglasshouseicm.org.

Room/Date Changes

Your classes will mostly take place in our Music Education Centre. The room, venue or date of class might change ahead of or during the term – but we’ll always let you know in advance.

Make sure we have your correct contact details so we can get in touch if we need to let you know of any changes.

Sometimes we might need to switch your regular tutor if they’re off sick. If we can’t find a replacement we may need to reschedule or cancel your class. Rescheduled classes will normally take place at the end of the term or during the half term break. We will always inform you of changes to your class by email.

Parking

If you’re joining us for a Make Music class, you can enjoy a discounted parking rate of just £2.50 for the day. Our car park is right behind the building, with lift and stair access to ground level.

To claim your discount, just pop by the Box Office before or after your class each time you visit to enter your vehicle registration at the tablet. Then, head to the car park machine to pay the discounted rate before leaving.

Remember to pay before driving out to avoid fines.

If you need any help, email us at learning@theglasshouseicm.org.

Make Music Membership Card

Available from the start of term and valid for the academic year.

As a member of the Make Music programme you are entitled to discount off purchases made in our shop and café when presenting your membership card.

You can collect your 24/25 membership card, from your class, the Foyle Music Centre reception desk and the Box Office.

Public Building Closures

Occasionally the Glasshouse will be hosting conferences which will mean the building and the car park may be busier than usual and certain areas of the building may have restricted access. You will need to enter from the doors on the Tyne Bridge side and there will be a special route for anyone coming to classes in the Foyle Music Centre on these days, along with a temporary café.
